We are seeking your feedback on proposed amendments to the Byron Shire Development Control Plan (DCP) 2014.
The amendments will introduce guidance to support NEW residential and non-residential development to use electricity, rather than gas, for:
- Cooking
- Heating
- Cooling
- Hot water.
The proposed changes do NOT apply to EXISTING homes or businesses.
Why are these changes being considered?
- Cost-of-living pressures
- Energy price volatility
- To protect the health and safety by avoiding indoor and outdoor pollution associated with gas use.
Some NSW councils have already adopted similar approaches.
We want to hear from you
We’re keen to hear from businesses, tourist accommodation providers, developers, trades people and the general community to:
- Help you understand what is being proposed and what impacts it might have on how you operate?
- Hear community and industry views and concerns.
- Test how practical these provisions are.
Next steps
After the consultation period closes:
- Feedback will be reviewed and analysed
- Draft provisions may be refined in response to issues raised a report will be prepared for Council consideration.
- Council will then decide whether to proceed with any amendments to the DCP.
