We are seeking your feedback on proposed updates to Byron Development Control Plan (DCP) 2014.

These updates are called “housekeeping amendments.”

They’re minor fixes to clear up mistakes, inconsistencies, or confusing parts in the DCP.

We keep a register of issues raised by staff and the community, which helps to identify updates required.

Aim of proposed changes

  • Make the rules easier to understand and more consistent across different chapters.
  • Align with current planning practices and Council policies.
  • Fix minor errors identified through recent use of the DCP.

House Keeping - All-Electric Development (No Gas)

Included as part of these “housekeeping amendments”, is a proposed set of new provisions for “All-Electric Development (No Gas)”. The objectives of these provisions are:

  • To ensure all new development is fully electric, with no reliance on gas for cooking, heating, hot water, or other building services.
  • To protect the health and safety of occupants by avoiding indoor and outdoor pollution associated with gas appliances.
  • To lower ongoing costs by avoiding reliance on gas connections and appliances.

These “All-Electric Development (No Gas)” provisions will be subject to additional engagement with key industry representatives to help determine the feasibility and practicality of implementing these draft provisions.

Any changes will only apply to new development once approved by Council.
