Feedback on the Draft Developer Contributions Plan 2026 closed 2 June.

The Draft will go to Council for adoption in July.

What is a Developer Contributions Plan?

Developer contributions are fees paid by developers as part of their Development Application (DA).

The Plan sets out:

  • How much Council collects from developers.
  • Which community projects these contributions will help fund.

Examples of projects that might be funded by developer contributions include:

  • Future parks
  • Shared paths
  • Hall upgrades.

Projects are identified in our existing:

  • Masterplans and Place Plans
  • Asset Management Plans
  • other strategic documents.

We supported these activities with a series of:

  • Newspaper advertisements and articles
  • Social media posts on Facebook and Instagram
  • E News articles to over 15,000 subscribers.

In person community engagement activities were held across Byron Shire, in addition to online feedback. Over 350 comments were received.

Key themes taken from in person workshops include:

  • Broad support for proposed one shire wide catchment
  • Understanding of pooling of developer contributions to fund infrastructure across Byron Shire
  • Alignment of projects included in work schedules and community priorities
  • Agreement of application of Section 7.11 to residential development and 7.12 to non-residential development.

As a result of community engagement activities undertaken, the endorsed draft Developer Contributions Plan was amended to now include:

  • An allocation for shade trees across Byron Shire.
  • Bayside Park Amenities Upgrade.
  • Shared Path on McGettigans Lane from Ewingsdale Road.
